Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about AI citations, LLM visibility, and how CITED.GG works.

What is LLM citation or AI citation?
When someone asks an AI assistant like ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity a question like 'what's the best project management tool for startups?', the AI recommends specific products by name. That recommendation is a citation. If your SaaS gets named, you're cited. If it doesn't, a competitor is.
How do LLMs decide what SaaS products to recommend?
LLMs learn from massive datasets of web content during training. They develop confidence about which entities (companies, products) are credible and relevant based on how they appear across the internet: structured data, authoritative mentions, consistent entity signals, and trusted sources. We engineer these signals specifically to increase your citation probability.
Is this the same as SEO?
No. And this is a critical distinction. SEO optimizes for search engine ranking algorithms. LLM citations are driven by entity confidence, training data signals, and knowledge graph presence. There is very little transfer between traditional SEO and AI citations. A company can rank #1 on Google and be completely absent from LLM answers.
How long does it take to get cited by AI models?
Based on our work with clients like LaunchVideo.com, initial citations typically appear within 30–60 days for some LLMs. Models like Perplexity (which have real-time web access) respond faster than models with less frequent training updates. We track progress monthly and share exact citation rates.
Which LLMs do you optimize for?
We optimize for the six major LLMs your buyers are using: ChatGPT (GPT-4o), Claude (Anthropic), Perplexity, Gemini (Google), Grok (xAI), and Microsoft Copilot. Each model has slightly different citation behaviors, and our methodology accounts for all of them.
How do you measure success?
Simple: we query the LLMs. Every month, we run a structured set of prompts representing real buyer questions in your category and record which products are cited. Your citation rate, the percentage of relevant queries where you're named, is the core metric. We share a monthly report with your rates vs. competitors.
What makes a SaaS company more likely to get cited?
The main factors are: entity clarity (LLMs have a confident, consistent understanding of what you do), authoritative mentions on sources LLMs trust, structured data that reinforces your entity signals, and content that directly addresses the queries buyers ask AI. We build all of these systematically.
How is this different from content marketing or PR?
Both content and PR can contribute to LLM citations, but only when done in ways that align with how LLMs learn. Typical blog content and generic press releases have minimal impact. We create the specific content formats, placements, and structured signals that actually move citation rates, not vanity metrics.
Do I need to already have an established brand?
No. We work with seed-stage startups through Series B companies. Earlier-stage companies actually have an advantage: there's less competing citation history to overcome. The best time to build LLM presence is before your category gets crowded.
What does the onboarding process look like?
Every engagement starts with an AI Visibility Audit, a comprehensive baseline of your current citation rates across all 6 LLMs vs. your top competitors. The audit takes 1–2 weeks and gives you a clear picture of exactly where you stand and what it'll take to get you cited. From there, we build and execute your Citation Architecture.
